Vocabulary Tip 2: Word groups
Words with similar meanings are not always interchangeable. It is easier to use a word
correctly if you know whether it is a verb, a noun or an adjective. Be careful with these
words: hurt, sore, pain.
Hurt is a verb. The past simple is also hurt.
My back hurts today. It also hurt yesterday. My feet hurt today. They hurt yesterday as well.
Sore is an adjective.
My back is sore. My feet are also sore. They weren't sore yesterday.

Pain is a noun. In the singular it usually has an article.
